Italcanna GreyStone — New 3-Piece Surfcasting Rod Line (Since 2024)
Introduced in 2024, the Italcanna GreyStone series represents a new generation of 3-piece surfcasting rods, developed through close collaboration between the Italcanna R&D department and Team Italcanna athletes. This range combines new molds and advanced materials with the proven experience behind rods that have made surfcasting history.
GreyStone rods are built using a sophisticated blend of six different carbon fibers, including classic High Modulus carbon with nanocomposite matrix and premium 1K Canvas, alongside new innovative materials with enhanced radial resistance, developed with specialized partners. The result is a structure that is powerful, reliable, and exceptionally lightweight.
The GreyStone series features Fuji guides, with:
- Single-leg guides on the upper section to reduce weight and maintain responsiveness
- Double-leg guides on the lower section for maximum strength and durability
Grip and joint areas are finished with high-grip coating, and each rod is equipped with the exclusive RewTaper joint system (Italcanna patented), ensuring long-lasting, stable connections over time.
GreyStone LG75 — Precision, Sensitivity, and Control
The LG75 model is a slightly asymmetric 3-piece rod designed to perform optimally with both 50 g and 75 g weights. It delivers a pronounced tip action that allows excellent bite detection and precise reading of sea conditions.
Its length makes it ideal for:
- Fishing with long rigs
- Reaching beyond the first wave line
- Targeting the first step on demanding seabeds
Despite its length, the LG75 remains highly stable during casting, minimizing tip wobble and reducing the risk of tangles. It provides strong casting performance even with simple, controlled casting styles. This is achieved thanks to the optimized single-tip design integrated perfectly with the underlying blank structure.
It is particularly suitable for competition fishing, enabling:
- Light, accurate fishing for small fish near shore
- Quick adaptation to longer range setups by switching to a 75 g lead
The action is tip-oriented, but the sub-tip engages progressively and smoothly when needed — never abruptly — allowing safe management of larger fish and thin lines without shock stress on the blank.
The LG75 offers an ideal balance between tip sensitivity and fish control, remaining light and comfortable to handle while maintaining full control even at 75 g loads. The ultra-sensitive thin tip clearly registers even the most delicate bites, reducing reaction time and improving efficiency.
Extended Range Models
The GreyStone family expands on the LG75 platform with heavier models:
- 100 g and 130 g models — Developed from the LG75 concept, with the 130 g version featuring a refined asymmetric design and a unique action that combines high sensitivity with strong control over larger fish.
- 150 g model — Best suited for weights between 125–150 g
- 180 g model — Optimized for weights between 140–180 g
These models complete the GreyStone range, covering a wide variety of surfcasting conditions while maintaining the series’ core characteristics: sensitivity, structural strength, and casting efficiency.
