Continental URF Leads
The Continental URF Lead originated on the beaches of Portugal but has quickly gained popularity across Europe and the UK. Designed for use with a long-trace rig, these leads allow anglers to fish up to three hooks from a single swivel, offering excellent bait presentation and movement.
Ideal for targeting flatfish like flounder and plaice, but versatile enough to catch a wide variety of species depending on hook size and trace strength.
Key Features:
- Designed for use with URF-style long trace rigs
- Optimised for calm to moderate sea conditions
- Encourages natural bait movement across the seabed
- Effective for flatfish but capable of catching all species
Available Weights and Colours:
- 130g – Orange
- 150g – Yellow
- 170g – Red
To build the perfect URF trace, we recommend staggering your hook lengths using:
- Top hook – 25lb mono
- Middle hook – 15lb mono
- Bottom hook – 12lb mono
This setup helps avoid tangles and improves bait spread, though breaking strains can be adjusted based on target species. Avoid going too light, as finer hook lengths are more prone to tangling. When i use the URF rig i normally add approx 6 inches of silicone tubing onto the swivel and a knot protector over the quick change mini or spinlink
Continental style meets UK conditions — a must-have for serious flatfish anglers.

Popular leads for fishing clear water .Ideal for Flatfish but will often fool Bass and other quality fish, Although normally used with light hook lengths and small hooks but can be adapted to suit target fish and conditions
